Let's Get the Ball Rolling

SENIORS mark you calendar for April 17th from 9:00-1:00 at the GORGE
HALL, on how to make Cortes more friendly as we age.

According to your responses on the Age-Friendly OCP Survey, the top
two issues facing Cortes Seniors are:

1/ Transportation Options

2/ Home Support Services

Bring your ideas and help to
create an action plan. We’ll also present the highlights from the survey
results & a free LUNCH is included.

Keep an eye out for more information coming soon. Call Sarah
O’Shannessy 935-0282 or Brenda Hanson 935-0162 with any questions.

Christmas cards

Please join us at the Manson's Christmas Fair on November 28th and
at the Gorge Craft Bazaar on December 5 th in order to help support
Seniors Helping Seniors.  We have refurbished  and recycled a number of
beautiful Christmas cards, and will be  offering them for only $2 each,
in an attempt to raise funds for our  hard working program. Hope to see
you there! Please call Sarah for  more information 935 0282*.

Christmas Centerpieces

Seniors Helping Seniors will once again be making Christmas
centerpieces this year. Instead of selling them at the Christmas Fairs,
we will now be taking orders ahead of time and arranging delivery.
Please contact Sarah no later than Tuesday December 3rd to place your
order (935 0282). Centerpieces will be $12 each, and funds raised will
allow us to deliver centerpieces to the Island's most special seniors
again next year. Thank you for your support!

Swimming

Seniors Swimming will start up again on October 5th.  Please
remember to call Sarah at least 3 days in advance if you would like to
take part.  Also, Sarah would like to know if any CISS member out there
would like to take on the coordination of the biweekly swimming?  This
would entail receiving phone calls from those who would like to go, as
well as organizing drivers and rides.  This would be a huge help!
Please contact Sarah at 935 0282 for more information.

Cards Anyone???

"Do you have a collection of new or used cards you just don't know
what to do with?  If so, please call Sarah at 0282 and she will pick
them up and donate them on your behalf to Seniors Helping Seniors.  The
cards will then be recycled and used as get well and birthday cards, as
well as sold at the market to raise funds for this important Island
program - Seniors Helping Seniors!  Thanks for your support!"

Swimming at the Gorge Marina

The Gorge pool is now open, free of charge, for all CISS members on
Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9-10am.  On Thursdays there will be
an aquacise class lead by Carol Thaker from 9-10am. If you have any
questions please give Sarah a ring at 0282.
Happy swimming!

Senior’s Trip to Mitlenatch Island with Misty Isles!
June 22nd $75 plus GST ($78.75 in total) per person for the 6 hour trip, minimum 6, max 12 participants. The trip is about 6 hours to go from Cortes Bay to Mitlenatch, anchor off Mitlenatch and half the group go ashore with a naturalist and the other half goes around the island by zodiac with me for a good view of the seals, sealions and cormorant rookeries. We then switch groups and after head home again. This is a spectacular trip and photos and info can be seen on our website.
Pick up will be from the Cortes Bay public dock at 10 am. We have a super low tide that day at noon. It will be good to ride the last of the ebb to Mitlenatch and do a low tide exploration. We’ll be back around 4pm.
Everyone should bring a lunch which we’ll eat underway. We’ll have teas onboard and cookies for the trip home. We’ll need shoes that can get wet to get ashore on the island, barefeet are not an option with such a low tide- puts us amongst the sharp shells.
You can pay and sign the waiver at the beginning of the trip, but need to register with Sarah by June 17th. Any questions, please contact Sarah at 0282 or via email at s_oshannessy@hotmail.com
